Why is my electrical outlet not working after switching the outlet for a new one?

I took the old one out, moved the wires to the corresponding area on the new outlet, turned the plug back on through the circuit breaker, plugged in my toaster (to make sure the outlet works) and it doesn't. I even put in a different outlet (I bought many) and that isn't working either. The microwave (on the same wall) is now not working either. What could be wrong?
