My "friend" gave me spyware, is he trying to check out my activity?

This guy I know is majorly paranoid about spyware, and he has all these programs to hide his privacy, and he spies on others... he sent me a codec program through uTorrent and now it's come up that it has 11 spyware on it... Is this from him? I didn't check anything that might have allowed spyware to be installed on my computer... What information could he get from this? I know once he made me install a program that allowed him to view and control my screen and that's just made me paranoid now =/...
