Is it still invading someone elses privacy to read there messages left on a phone you know own?

My sister now has my old phone and has decided to read messages that I didn't want anyone especially not my parents to hear from last year! Just because it's now her phone she thinks that it's ok to read them as they are now her messages but I sent them so are they not considered mine?
