Help me find this movie?

It is a period piece about an Asian family that is removed from their home and forced to live in a tent. All I can remember is that a bride and groom try to share their wedding night and the mother of the bride? turns on a record player so they can have some privacy and so that the kids in the tent won't hear them. There were Asian men in uniforms? And Asian women sitting on suitcases at one point. This movie is older. The acting was spectacular and the female protagonist was breathtaking. I'm sick that my memory sucks so bad that I can't remember the name of it. Thank you for your help!
